The trip was great and met expectations. Kranjska Gora is a truly idyllic small Alpine village where both mind and eyes can relax.
As an event, the Planica flying hill weekend is certainly the best ski jumping competition in the world, including the Four Hills Tournament and other similar competitions. The arrangements worked perfectly, and shuttle buses ran continuously between Kranjska Gora and Planica.
Moving around the competition site was smooth despite the large crowd, and the atmosphere at the venue was fantastic. The side events with concerts further enhanced the mood.
Hotel Alpina was a decent and clean 3-star hotel. Breakfast was adequate and varied enough. The only minor downside was the water pressure in the shower, which was more like a trickle, but we managed to shower normally.
The restaurants and cafes in Kranjska Gora village were of high quality, and prices were somewhat lower than in Finland, although there was probably a slight “event surcharge.”
Overall, it was a great competition weekend and a successful trip. The location of Kranjska Gora village is quite remote, requiring a few hours of driving after the flight, but the place is worth it, and the long drive is bearable.
